Respect

“And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.” 1 Kings 6:7.
This week, my wife was doing her devotionals early in the morning, and she came across this verse. She turned to me and asked excitedly, “Do you know how the temple was built?”
“Yes…..?” I gave an unsure answer because I didn’t understand her intentions. Then she showed me this verse from 1 Kings 6:7. It was a powerful verse about the reverence that the builders had in building the sacred house of God. They made parts of the building far from the temple site, then brought them in and assembled them, like building Lego houses, all in silence. This showed how sacred and holy the house of God is, and how the builders gave it their utmost respect.
This is the attitude we must show in the presence of God, our mighty Creator. Paul also declares in 1 Corinthians 6:19: our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We should have the same respect for ourselves, for we are not only God’s created beings, but also serving as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Living a healthy lifestyle includes good sleep, a balanced diet, exercise, and, most importantly, constant worship of God for who He is.
As His children and disciples, we represent Christ.
